No responses received on several forum for the specifics of control interface, optional wired controls; so I will need to set up and do it myself.
Thanks to XRinger, I had the source for a wired control that matches the functionality of my heat pump exactly, so I ordered one. I'll set up with this on the test bench and document the control protocol. Then with one of the newer embedded processors with enough power to also provide an ethernet interface & small web/cgi function, will implement a web based controller/monitor for the heat pump. Thanks to those who did provide feedback & suggestions. GH |

My plan is still to take the wired remote control on order, interface it to a NetDuino or possibly Raspberry-Pi micro, learn to read the comment protocol, then learn to write it & then create a small web interface with CGI, so that things can be monitored and controlled over the internet. GH |

The Sanyo wired remote has shipped. When received I'll set up on the test bench in the hangar with a protocol analyzer & document the interface. I have a NetDuino that I'll use to implement the controller.
May set a small project web site for others to view the data. GH |

Not sure if anyone is reading this but will post a small update.
I received the Sanyo wired remote. It's about as expected. It has a single 8 bit micro inside to handle everything. The rest is mostly passives, backup battery, LCD display, and a thermister. I have an USB based logic analyzer to capture the data, which will then let me walk through the buttons, etc. and map the functionality. Then I picked up a NetDuino (32 bit processor) that'll I'll use to code up my own controller. GH |

Set up on work bench in hangar & got first trace. Looking at writing a protocol analyzer to make reading of data easier.

And as a double check, to make sure they are the same; I'm going to get a small IR receiver board from SparkFun and set up to capture the command stream from the handheld IR remote & document that in the same manner.

The data stream for the Sanyo wired remote looks to be 'space' coded or Pulse Distance Coding, typically used by Panasonic (owns Sanyo). Now I'll need to confirm that is what YMGI is using. The numbers check, 27 bytes, overall packet about 180 ms. I was seeing about 180 ms for the packet lengths yesterday.
I found a good Finnish web site, several links, where they have done considerable work in decoding these long data streams & have documented them. That should save some time. GH |

Well grayhawk,
You certainly have my attention. I for one am very glad that you are posting your progress in such useful detail. What kind of USB based logic analyzer are you using? I saw several on ebay that I thought were interesting... some very inexpensive ones, too and they looked to be easily offer the bandwidth I would need for a project that is not unrelated to your project. Keep up the good work! Best, -AC
