Yeah, I think community building will be a vital part moving forward. I think Chris is coming at it from a personal resiliency angle but it's a piece of the larger community puzzle. Of course some people might try and get ahead to gain power or wealth, but might actually put you behind in a social aspect. For example these preppers armed to the teeth in their isolated farms are removing themselves from an important support system, and I'd hate to think of the psychological toll that social isolation would have.

Excellent interview btw. I like the term Intelligent Responses.

It is amazing.

I hope that it is possible for Bangladesh to supply its petroleum needs through the hyacinth technology in combination with other renewable technologies.

One problem is that civilization uses energy on such a huge scale, that sustaining the current energy level (which is based on withdrawing energy from a fossilized energy reservoir that took many millions of years to form) might be a rapacious enterprise, as it plays out in the daily life of our planet.

Another problem which your post does not mention is that our economic system is based on continuous growth, which a finite planet can not sustain.

So we actually have three goals...
  • Increasing our use of hyacinth, and other renewable resources.
  • Find ways of reducing our energy use, while maintaining a good quality of life. (EcoRenovator to the rescue!)
  • Finding a way to base our economy on something other than perpetual growth.

The challenges have never been greater.

Best,

-AC
