XL800 Digital thermostat installed
I left the top (default) jumper installed and installed a lower
jumper to supply power.. When I tested it on the downstairs loop, it seemed to work, (we had nite-light) but upstairs, it just blinks when there is a call for heat and restarts. (Wait) comes on. So, I removed the lower jumper and we are running on battery power only. Otherwise, we would stay in wait and never get any heat.. Does anyone know if it's even possible to power this unit from a simple 1-transformer heating system? |

I'm not sure. I ran it off the battery too.

Wiring
IIRC, the install sheet warned against just using batteries.
Since you could wind up with frozen pipes if they failed. I'll have to keep looking into it.. Edit: I've noticed the wiring into the thermostat box has a ground wire that's not attached to anything on either end. Prehaps that can be the path for one leg of 24vac transformer just to provide power to the XL800.. The other 24vac leg could come in on one of the other lines.. Maybe.. AC power on RC & B and the control loop would be on W1 and R..?. Last edited by Xringer; 04-15-10 at 12:20 PM.. Reason: New wire found. |
