if you are doing co2, DO use a regulator. It likes to pop hoses. Then what you end up with is a fire extinguisher with a frozen shutoff valve. Definitely worth it.

Hm, if that's the case then a 5lb industrial style tank may be better. Easier to fill locally. I have a MIG flow regulator, would that work for purging if I swap the tank side nipple out to fit the co2 tank? I know I'm jumping around with my questions, just trying not to spend tons on something that will only get occasional use for purging.

Here's my regulator. Victor inert gas, max inlet pressure 3000psi. Seems like it would work for purging, since we wouldn't be trying to build pressure.

Welding regulators usually have a max pressure of 50psi.
That's what I have mine set at.

Perfect tool for the job. You may be able to cheaply rent a cylinder that would screw right into your regulator. Pay deposit, use the thing, get back deposit minus rent and weight of gas used.

Cool, that's what I'll use then. I'll call the rental place and airgas to see. If I can't rent then I can get a 5lb bottle on ebay or amazon to fill or swap. GCA320 nipple only $10 so no issue getting the reg on the tank. Thanks for the heads up on the possibility of short term rental.

Watch craigslist CO2 cylinder. I bought one cheap off craigslist and turned it in for a welding cylinder. They gladly exchanged it for any type cylinder same size.

+1 on watch CL

Got an 80CF bottle and regulator for $20 last year.

Last week got a Lincoln portapro O2 and acet bottle with hoses and torch for $20 at a moving sale

keep your eyes open and check CL and garage sales often.

75/25 argon/co2 works fine for brazing right? Bottle is more expensive but then I'd have a bottle to convert my Lincoln flux core welder to MIG.

Edit: I see elsewhere this was tested and confirmed, so there we go. More expensive bottle but more use too.
