I take the Prius C2 (50-70 MPG) for most of our trips..

Only use the Ford Escape (24 MPG) for hauling. Today we hauled a big gas water heater.
Before that, it was used to haul a new snow-thrower..

I have to keep the Escape on a charger, or the battery goes flat..

I like your Car Xringer, looks like a station wagon inspired design - cool -

Curious how long can you cruise with just the electric mode ?

Default It's smooth areo design. Kinda small..

Here's the readout of a trip we made to Somerville MA and back.
It's one of the most densely populated towns in the USA.
Traffic that day was normal (horrible) mostly stop-n-go and hills!

But, we got pretty good MPG for those 20 miles.
Because, 12.3 of those miles were on the battery.

The car has a very small battery with lower voltage (144vdc),
so it has very limited range and speed in EV mode..

However, while you are driving, anytime the drive load is light,
like going down hill, going slow on a flat road, the engine wants
to shut down, and let the motor do the job.
If it's a slight down-hill road, you can ease back on the gas,
and drop into EV mode and go a mile or two at around 40 mph..

This car was made for heavy city traffic. When you hit a red light,
the engine turns right off. Going up hill in heavy traffic and have to stop
or slow down to 5 to 10 mph, the engine will normally shut off..

Getting 50% EV mode in town is very easy. No effort needed.
But, getting 70 MPG in town is a bit harder, but not too hard.

The engine goes on and off as you drive. It's almost Unnoticeable.
After a while, you forget it's going off and on, until you stop for more than about 3 seconds..

Nice car X.

Someone explain to me the difference between the Prius C and V other then a bit more trunk space. Is there more headroom in the V too? More space up front? One of them may be our next car at some point in the future.

I think the V is a lot larger (can carry larger cargo).. It's the station wagon of the family. Check out the specs online.

I don't think there is a ton of difference in the front seat space.
The C does not have that big honking center shifter monolith thing.
It's more like a standard small car..

Be warned, Prius people who drive the standard Prius models, do not look at a C model, as being a legitimate Prius..

One reason is the fantastic MPG of the C makes them jealous..

Oh yeah, I had to drive the Ford again last week.. Actually two trips..
One to pick up a new gas hotwater heater at HD and a second trip
to return it and pick up the correct hotwater heater!
If this keeps up, I'll be able to buy more gas this summer.
And of course some more STA-BILŪ fuel preservative.

Found out why my Ice Pack is melting so fast! It's Global Warming!
It's been slowly getting warmer since around 1660AD..

If you believe this chart..

Yeah, I looked at both pics just to see and it does look a bit bigger, but not hugely so.

Are you saying that the other prius's are jealous of the C?

And when I say that I mean the V looks more like a Matrix compared to the C being the size of the hatchback Yaris.

I think the C has the Yaris platform.. But, I'm not sure.. Not a car guy.
(I had a bicycle when I was a kid).

The C is capable of amazing MPGs.. I can go get a pizza up the road, and I get 70 MPG!
If I hotrod, it's only 40 or 50 MPGs..

As you can see, the C is a great MPG car.. Not very fancy, but is fun to drive..

The normal Prius liftback is virtually the same as the V, except they extended it about 6 inches, the back isn't sloped as much, and its been regeared a bit to maintain good acceleration (at the expense of gas mileage). The Prius C is smaller, and it also uses a smaller engine. The best way to really know what you're looking at is go look at them. The size difference is noticeable.

The liftback and the Prius C have virtually the same mpg ratings. The C gets better mileage in the city, and the liftback gets better mileage on the highway. The V gets the lowest of them all. If you look at fuelly.com (actual user data), the Prius Cs are averaging 51 mpg, liftback is at about 47, and the V is at 42.
