Default New homeowner in South Dakota

I just came across a thread on ecomodder today about this site and thought it was appropriate to join.

My girlfriend and I purchased a new construction home in May of 2008. It is a split level with ~800 sq. ft. per level, but we didn't want to pay them to finish the basement. We will be finishing the basement over this winter and we are going to try and keep eco friendly practices in mind when we do so. I've been keeping track of nearly all of the bills we've paid so far so I can identify when something is getting out of hand or how well modifications are working.

I am kind of handy and like taking on DIY projects. For example I will be trying in the spring to convert an old lawnmower that I got for free during spring cleaning a few years back to a cordless mower with a small solar panel setup. I am also very interested in the possibility of a small wind turbine that could be placed on the roof.

I will definately be swinging back by here every day or two probably right after my ecomodder visit. Thanks and I look forward to seeing some good information on here.
