The picture shows a USB port so I will wait and see. If it does not then I will complain as well.

It might have a port connector, but if it's not enabled, it's not going to work.
They were selling those years ago, and you had to pay for an up-grade,
to get your USB port enabled.. (new Firmware I assume).

Like my Ford Escape. I have wiring under the rear bumper for trailer lighting.
But, look in the fuse box, and there aren't any trailer relays installed!
Worse part, I can't see any contacts, down inside the relay sockets!
So, I'm not going to spend any money on relays just yet..

Here's the main problem people have with trying to use the USB,
and footprints. You have to have a USB cable plugged in and a PC running.
USB cables are short. The signal for the display unit comes in via the AC line.
I never got mine to work in my computer room.

Just used a laptop to see how it worked..

To get the monthly data, I just used the recall function of the display unit.
Plus it shows real-time and daily use, on one of the display screens.

I find it very useful, without using the USB..

I got one of these TED thingies.

It's easy to hook up, and the display is nice enough.

But I ran the power-off-for-20-seconds-and-then-power-back-on-and-quickly-look-at-the-lower-right-hand-corner-of-the-display test and mine did have the letter "L" which meant it was a locked unit.

It sure would be nice if there was some way to Hack The TED 1001, so that the data stream could be captured and subsequently graphed.

There is also a hack that puts a Xbee radio transmitter into the TED 1001 that allows a host of other options.

LOL! I was ripped off by uncle TED!!
I purchased my 1001 from them in Dec 2010, after it had been discontinued in 2009!! Dang!!

Great! These current transducers will likely just fit around my main service cables. When we re-did the farm electrical infrastructure, I put in very large copper cables from the transformer to the central distribution box. Old service wire was aluminum . .

Digging deep trenches and pulling cables through conduit is a major pain, especially very heavy copper wire. I will never use underground rated aluminum again (service wire) as it burned out in one spot (and not in conduit). Exciting when smoke and hissing comes out of the ground . . . .

After putting in the copper I tested it with a large current load. Borrowed ~ a dozen electrical spot resistance heaters (1 kW each) and turned on every resistance element I could find (water well pumps, geothermal heat pumps, ovens, stove, etc, etc). Probably 300+ amps. Observed a tiny voltage drop (< 1 V) from meter base to service panels in houses and barns . That made me feel better about the above labor.

My service can handle up to 600 amps as future plans will incorporate a variety of electrical hungry shops as well as at least 10 kW of PV panels. Right now, I use far less.

The large underground copper service cables (forgotten the gage size) but they are just less than one inch. I have a piece of the wire that I will check.

The TED 1001 is not the greatest, but it SURE is the right price! Thanks for the heads up on e-bay and the info. I will be ordering one tonight.

Well, I got my TED 1001RDU model . It comes with the display, 2 current sensors the cable to a little black box measurement and sending unit and instructions. Nothing else but it does have the kind of plug that goes into a back of a printer. No idea what it does though. I am disappointed. There must be some way to get the info out but I wouldn't know how.

That socket is a standard USB cable socket, and you can use a standard printer cable to connect the display to a PC..
But, it won't work, unless your display has been USB enabled/ unlocked.

The 1001 isn't too hard to set up, once you get it running, it will display
real-time power use and will accumulate your monthly kWh use for a year.
The way I get my 'data' is to press the buttons to recall the data and write it down.

Never even put that Footprints program in my new PC. Too clunky, and the interface was made for low-res displays..

You can also set alarms to go off for over-voltage and over-power use..
I think it's well worth $20..
