Haha, I feel your pain. I fired up the furnace on Friday to make sure everything was working. Found out I was out of filters too. The cold is definitely starting to come.

As much as I do not like weather under 75°F, I am looking forward to a much lower electric bill. I do not have a gas/LP heater, it's all electric.
I heat with a wood stove, and it really works great.

I'm completely the opposite. My electric bills are going to start going up with the december/january bill probably close to quadrupling the June/July bill

My electric bill is going to jump up, because we will be using the Sanyo a lot more.
But, if the winter isn't too cold, we might not have to use any heating oil (for space heating)..
Since heating with oil costs about 5X heating with the Sanyo ASHP..
I'm still planing on tweaking the 800w solar PV booster I have on the boiler.

We do burn about 1/2 gallon a day for hot water now.
If the government keeps up it's good work, I might have to shut off the
oil burner and shift over to wood for hot water and space heating when it's below 10F.
No way I'm going to be burning much oil, if goes over 5 USD a gallon..

No! No! Not yet!!!
I've been absorbed by all sorts of other projects and haven't had time to work on the central heating yet. I still have a bunch of stuff which needs to be finished before heating season starts.

The mosquitos have already found out that it's warmer in the house than outside: Our front door is open for most of the day since my brother-in-law is doing the floor and stairs, and each evening there are ~40 skeeters on the ceiling in the TV room and kitchen

I understand that BugZappers don't use a lot of power, unless the skeeters are massive
and snap-crackle-pop, between the wires for a long time!
The smaller ones just go POP! ZAP! and they are off the grid, so to speak..

I know they work on flies and moths, but skeeters?

Snap! Crackle! Pop! Electric Bug Zappers Are Useless For Controlling Mosquitoes, Says UF/IFAS Pest Expert

We have a small Zapper that we have used indoors many times during buggy summers.
When I took off the dead-bug cup on the bottom, all kinds tiny flying bugs would
be mixed in with a few skeeters.
It's not a real high voltage model, so we have a little brush for cleaning off the wires.

They might be "Useless For Controlling Mosquitoes", but if they don't have a choice?
It might be too hard to detect my CO2, when I'm in bed, way down the hall.
(With a breeze blowing the CO2 out my windows).

The Zapper is sitting out in the den at 2Am with no people around,
the attraction of UV lamp must be bringing them in.

If you have indoor skeeters, try leaving a Zapper on in a room that's
remote from your bedroom, and make sure all other lights are off.
It might work for you.. Or, you could get some bats..

Look at this..

Electric Bug Zappers - Mosquitoes 101

Mosquitoes prefer human targets to ultraviolet light so bug zappers
usually catch only 3% of the mosquitoes in your yard.

And maybe a larger percentage when no CO2 is around?

The Wife's friend told her today, that her UV bug zapper collects mostly mosquitos. BUT it is located in the livingroom, where the skeeters don't have much to do, except for a few hours in the evening. And they have a hard time escaping, while other bugs which would normally get zapped usually prefer to hang out outdoors. Sooo, placing a bug zapper indoors gives totally different results than when placed outdoors.

BTW I looked around but didn't find how much energy those things consume

Still, my hi-tech device consumes no (electrical) energy, and selectively kills only skeeters, while allowing spiders, moths, beetles, etc., to live their buggy little lives...
