MA homeowners can now sell back electricity at retail rates
WBZ NEWSRADIO 1030 - MA homeowners can now sell back electricity
D.H. Boston (AP) -- Homeowners tired of paying high electricity bills can now turn the tables by selling excess electricity back to power companies. The only hitch? Homeowners need a way to generate power on their own, either by installing solar panels on their roofs or planting wind turbines on their property. It's called "net metering," and beginning Tuesday property owners can submit the applications needed to begin earning credits on their electricity bills if they generate more energy than they need. To sweeten the deal, the Massachusetts' 2008 Green Communities Act requires utility companies compensate their customers for the excess electricity at a retail rate rather than a lower wholesale rate. The law also lets customers allocate their credits to other customers." ~~~ Retail? That's sweet! And, one could also give those extra kWhs to their family and friends as gifts.. |

Wait... so they give you credit, instead of a check? I know a guy in central Wisconsin who is getting around $600 per month from his utility for what he produces! of course he produces more then most people would, but having your utility pay you seems nice.

Not sure of the details, but
If you are allowed dump up to 2 MW back on the grid, my guess is,
they are going to have to pay you some cash money for that power.. New Massachusetts law makes solar power more viable for homes, businesses | Cooler Planet News Otherwise, you could go into business, selling your extra kWh to folks who don't own any solar panels, but would like to be burning 'green' juice while watching their plasma TV.
