Default Gutter Apron vs Drip Edge

I'm trying to waterproof my metal shed, and I'm having trouble understanding the difference between a drip edge and a gutter apron. I can see the physical difference in how they're shaped, but every single article I can find online only covers that. What I'm trying to figure out is the difference in how/why they're used, what the benefit is of one versus the other, etc.

Could someone please explain the difference to me? If needed, I can post pictures of my shed later. Thanks!

I've never the term gutter apron. Interested in hearing more as well!
Looks like an extended drip edge, so it fits down into the gutter.
