Default Green electricity now undercuts major utilities in Britain

Very cool news. I wonder how their energy costs compare to ours. I would imagine that they are higher.

Green electricity now undercuts major utilities in Britain

Quote:
Its latest announcement - that it will sell 100% green electricity below the price that Britain's major utilities are offering their standard tariff - is quite another. Green electricity has long been available to British consumers through the deregulated energy markets there, but uptake has not been huge - there is still an assumption from many that it will cost them more than standard rates.

Now, Ecotricity will not only be offering price-parity with the incumbents. It will actually be actively undercutting them.

Electricity is not cheap here in the UK.
The standard tarrif they compare to is offer 40-50% more than the best tarrifs from the same supplier, it is one of the tricks that they put you onto the standard tarrif as soon as any deal you are on ends.

For us Ecotricity would be a 19% price increase based on 10KWh/day:
Currently 18.9p standing charge and 12.04p KWh
Ecotricity 10.08p standing charge and 15.67p KWh
