Checked out your link and I'm impressed. A great low-tech solution to your wasted water and heat energy. My last house had a water leak under the slab and they repiped the house through the attic, all 3/4" PVC / CPVC. It took forever to get HW to the bathrooms, both located at the extreme opposite end of the house.

We used that experience to design our room arrangement in our new home so the plumbing runs would be as short as possible. We do use a 3/4" CPVC pipe as a trunk line feeding the two bathrooms and 1/2" CPVC to the four individual faucets. The bathrooms are back to back. Our HWH is centrally located compared to where we use water. We made sure there would be no HW pipes going the length of this house. We're much happier with this setup.

It does seem the best solutions often are not prohibitively expensive.
