Default Floor plan/layout software?

Hello all, I have been wanting to draw up floor plans for my house for use in remodeling and for basic reference. I'd like to have separate pages for each floor including dimensions, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC layouts. So far I have downloaded Google Sketchup and been playing around with it a little. Has anybody else used Sketchup for floor plans, or is there any other good free software out there for this purpose? I prefer not to go pencil and paper if I can avoid it .

Been using Sketchup for building project plans for years. Works fairly well and gets easier with practice.

Me too on the Sketchup. User friendly, easy way to convey ideas and dimensions to lay persons.

I found the SolarCabin Youtube channel to be a very good intro to Sketchup. He's got a number of good examples on building small homes (under 200sq ft) but this could be scaled larger if you want. Many great ideas.

Here's a video of him doing some framing.
