Default Leaf B Mode

Our 2012 Leaf has an Eco mode , with enhanced regenerative braking .

I read of a B mode . Is it pretty much the same , with a different name , on latter models ?

Thanks ,
Wyr

B mode is new on the upper two trims in 2013. See 2013 LEAF ECO and B-mode (SV and SL trims)

We run ECO all the time. I run B mode all the time, and my wife uses D mode all the time. In B mode, my non-emergency braking is almost entirely just an accelerator pedal modulation.

My daughter's '13 has the B mode. It is like eco mode, but it brakes (regens) stronger and sooner when you let up on the pedal. Great for going down a steep hill. Also great for people who want to drive with one pedal in stop-n-go traffic.

All of these modes are just modifications to the code that interprets the throttle position.

Thanks,
When I drove the Leaf I asked the kid what that meant but he didn't know.

You should put one of the inexpensive inductive coil kilowatt hour meters on your #8 charging wires and get real numbers for what the leaf consumes. Then, you can really compare $$/mi between the Sonic and the Leaf. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you get real numbers. (I have friends in Colorado with a Leaf).

The display on then Leaf indicates I am getting I am getting 4.1 miles per KWH . I had driven a little over 1200 miles . This gives about 293 KWH . I am paying ( I think ) $ .11 per KWH for electricity . This gives about $ 32.00 for electricity . Add another 25% for charging loss / inefficiency gives about $ 42.25 for electricity .

This is a savings , but not earth shaking . Subject to change as energy prices change .

God bless

Wyr,
25% seems high but still this is why many people with EVs put PV in place first. Also charging at work can cut the bill in half or more if you can use work and chargers at malls when you do your shopping.

25% is just a conservative guess . Could be anywhere between that & 15% loss .

I drive a company truck & Wifey is retired . She mostly drives the Leaf . So , no charging at work .

We have never charged it anywhere but at home . One time Level 1 & the rest of the time Level 2 .

God bless
