Yard hydrant is what I'm after, except with no fear of water cross contamination and not the cost of 500 to 600 dollars for the sanitary yard hydrants....trying to build a poor mans hydrant I quess would be the best way to put it...again I don't have to worry with extreme cold though.

Please excuse my ignorance,
Please explain what this project is. I can not figure it out. What do you mean by a hydrant. Like strider3700 asked. Is this just a hose bib, or, faucet that you want to put in the yard? What is the reason that you are concerned about cross contamination?

Yes, it will be a hose bib at top of 3/4" pvc and it all will be inside basically a 2x4 hollow post. Hoping to use geo-heat to keep the pipe from freezing. the hose bib is a Woodford 101P No-Siphon.

Been reading about the posibility of cross contamination with the cheaper yard hydrants because the weep hole is open underground.

Water the yard, fill dog water buckets, for me to drink on a hot day. All the lines are connected to our potable water supply.

Ok. Why not use one of these? In San Antonio they put them on all new construction.

If you are worried about the weep hole at the bottom then don't poop in the hole or toss a dead critter down there before you fill it in and you could even go a step further and toss a few shovel fulls of clean gravel or river rock in the bottom of the hole so it drains instead of creating an underground mud puddle.
If you had a setup where you wanted to sell it as clean water, for our door food venders or something then you would need a sanitary set up, but for normal use, unless like I said, you toss something in the bottom of the hole that is going to make you sick, you are fine and are trying to take care of a non issue.

So what you are really worried about is back flow. Is that what you meant by cross-contamination?
Just put a back flow preventer on the end of the faucet, or yard hydrant, and you will be set.

By the way, I have never heard of a yard hydrant till this thread.

The issue is, there is a drain down below the frost line, often 4 to 6 feet down so that when you turn the water off the water that is in the stand pipe drains down and in to the ground instead of freezing in the pipe and these types of water hydrents are common on farms where the hole could be back filled with animal waste, allowing the weep hole to become contaminated.
