The Chelyabinsk meteor is the largest object known to have encountered the Earth since the 1908 Tunguska event, and the only such event known to have resulted in a large number of injuries. The predicted close approach of the roughly 50-metre (160 ft) sized asteroid 2012 DA14 occurred about 15 hours later; Russian sources, the European Space Agency and NASA indicated the two events were unrelated because they had different trajectories.

Jeepers! If that small rock had come in at a steep angle on a large city, it could have killed millions.
Objects like this are so small, they can't be tracked, so we don't get the early warning, like we got for asteroid 2012 DA14.

The asteroid was discovered on February 23, 2012, by the Observatorio Astronómico de La Sagra, Granada in Spain seven days after passing 0.0174 AU (2,600,000 km; 1,620,000 mi) from Earth.[3]

LOL! it was spotted a week after it flew by...

Lesson learned in Russia. If you see a brilliant flash of light from the sky,
get far away from any windows, in case of flying glass..
Be aware of the time delay. The sonic shock wave might arrive several minutes after the flash. Depending on distance.

You and I are old enough to know what to do if we see a "flash in the sky".

It is called - duck and cover!

Yeah, all of us baby boomers would know instinctively move away from windows.

I once visited my Mom in Del Rio. I was sitting in the living room with a bunch of young folks,
when I heard six rapid-fire shots on the street out front. (Maybe a .357 mag).
At the second shot, I instantly took a dive to the floor, yelling "Get down"!

Everyone else in the room jumped up and started moving towards the front door and windows.
I yelled again, and they froze, looking down at me, like they were puzzled,
as to why I was laying flat on the floor.?. They wanted to see who was shooting.?.

About 10 seconds after that odd event, I decided there wasn't much I could do for these fools.
So, I killed the lights and zipped out the back door and started carefully peeking around the side of the house.
The shooter had left. There were no holes in my Mom's house. My rental car was okay.
So everything was fine. It must have been some jerks fooling around.
There wasn't a lot of crime in Del Rio at that time. Must have been a prank.
