Garage Door Opener Won't Open or Close

My garage door quit working correctly. I could hear the motor running but it does not move the door anymore. It is 16 years old.

I released the door from the opener it works fine manually.
I opened it up and it is not hard to see why it is not working any more.

It is made by Chamberlain the same as many craftsman and others.
Amazon has a rebuild kit prime shipping should be here Friday. $8.29

An old Craftsman garage door opener came with my house when I bought it 18 years ago, and it was by no means new then. About 10 years ago, I put a new one of those gears in it for far less than a new opener would have cost. It still works, although I use it infrequently... Definitely a win to only need to replace a gear.

I have the same issue with my garage door opener right now. I could have posted that exact picture myself. Actually its been that way for a year now. I typically don't park in the garage, so its not a huge deal. But I'd really like it fixed! Thanks for the info!

Excellent I am glad it helped someone else out.
We use ours a lot just like a front door so it will be nice to have it back.

I am also glad it is a cheap fix.

At first I was appalled with the apparent low quality of the gear. But then I thought about it and it may be a sacrificial part - almost like a fuse.

FAR cheaper to replace a plastic gear than the motor. And if a motor goes out, it can go in a very exothermic manner and then create other mayhem.

I bet this gear is also easy to replace as well as being inexpensive. I may just buy a gear replacement kit and put it on top of my existing Chamberlain unit. At least I have three of the same model openers (one in shop, one for house and one up in barn.

I like do that, like having an extra 40/60 PSI switch for the well pump, extra circuit breakers stored in the c. breaker box and always buying more plumbing fittings than the one I need.

It is just too long a drive to go into town . . . . . .

I finished this job. It did not take that long to do the job. I did replace the bearings and all the parts that the kit came with.
I used the video roflwaffle for info on the bearing replacement.
I will check it in a few days because it was very cold when I did the repairs and it could need some adjustment.

While working in garage tools spread every where and difficult to find at the spot that's why i am thinking about some good quality worktable for this i made some searches to find best portable worktable to manage the working tools in proper why in i found some good products from Amazon,according to your experience, suggest some good products.
