I don't notice any difference in cooking times. I don't know for sure if it uses less energy, but I understand that is supposed to. The only thing I do differently with induction is to avoid the "shake, rattle and roll" style of cooking some dishes because lifting the pan off the hob can turn the hob off.

They don’t heat up the surrounding area when you are cooking.
Instant heat adjustment Finer temp control on the higher end units. Yes they do save energy over other elect ranges and for me they go well with solar power. Go to the first post in the thread and you can see the energy savings. http://theinductionsite.com/how-induction-works.shtml Last edited by pinballlooking; 11-11-14 at 09:37 PM.. |

There is no clear info where higher efficiencies are exactly achieved with induction over others. If it is from just being able to reach boiling faster there maybe no real savings if it still takes 20min to still get tender rice, a 2hr simmer of spaghetti sauce or chili for deep flavor etc.? My wifes theory of cooking that twice the temp will half the cooking time in not universal with all recipes so am just wondering what type of "cooking" other than than boiling people are finding induction does satisfactorily. Frying? I can "cook" a whole potato in my MWV far faster /cheaper than my oven but they don't taste the same. My brother cooks professionally with induction(and loves it) but he has no objective of being efficient other than heat control. Time, ingredient and energy savings are not in any of his recipes. Whereas my life would be ideal with 5min meals that don't come packaged in cardboard trays.

You are not going to make meals ½ the time. Making anything where you have to boil something it will save some time. You can heat up soup or corn in ½ the time.
We used the no boil over feature again tonight it worked well. As AC _Hacker stated in this post the single burner induction could pay for itself over the years. The Range I bought will never play for itself even at the price I paid. I have been looking for a grille that cover both burners and will work with induction. This link has more info. http://theinductionsite.com/how-induction-works.shtml |

Gas it claims is 40% efficient while Electric Induction is 80 - 90% , although they used unconventional methods to get the numbers from pinballookings link.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ So I looked online and found this info @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inducti...ing#Efficiency According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the efficiency of energy transfer for an induction cooker is 84%, versus 74% for a smooth-top non-induction electrical unit, for an approximate 12% saving in energy for the same amount of heat transfer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ Last edited by ecomodded; 11-12-14 at 12:09 AM.. |
I think you will be happy this is site.
https://www.aceee.org/files/proceedi...pers/9-702.pdf Keep in mind these are low cost units used in the test. Higher end units are even better. The Convection oven might even save more than the induction. Convection Oven Cooking Tips Reduce the temperature that the recipe calls for by at least 25 degrees Reduce cooking time by up to 25% Always keep an eye on the food. Smaller batch cookies may only take a few minutes less, but larger cuts of meat may take up to an hour less depending on size. Use baking pans with low sides for better air circulation. Interesting how the Induction cooker is more efficient with smaller vessels.
I may get a cheap single Pot Induction cooker to use as a eco mod for the kitchen. I guess I should price one first.. I am going price some of the more affordable ones. |
This is what I got to try it out it worked well we used it over a year. It just does not do simmer very well. It used a lot less energy than my old range.
I seen a mini single plate one hat uses 1000w , I may try it, its $80 as well.
Costco and Wally have a a model to offer as well. Although I am also thinking I may wait and find one 2nd hand possibly online ,I will pay attention and have a look. If I bought one for $20 it may pay for itself before either it fails or I do.. |
