BBC News - Mysterious new man-made gases pose threat to ozone layer

"Scientists have identified four new man-made gases that are contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer.
Two of the gases are accumulating at a rate that is causing concern among researchers.
Worries over the growing ozone hole have seen the production of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) gases restricted since the mid 1980s.
But the precise origin of these new, similar substances remains a mystery, say scientists. "

" The four new gases have been identified as CFC-112, CFC112a, CFC-113a, HCFC-133a
CFC-113a has been listed as an "agrochemical intermediate for the manufacture of pyrethroids", a type of insecticide once widely used in agriculture
CFC-113a and HCFC-133a are intermediaries in the production of widely used refrigerants
CFC-112 and 112a may have been used in the production of solvents used to clean electrical components"

Humm, aren't all those gases emitted by suntan lotion manufacturing plants?
Yeah don't get me started on my conspiracy theories.

Xringer You know why your finding this winter is hard to heat and that ice pack's slow melt , its the 2nd Coldest U.S. Winter in 35 Years

By Roy W. Spenser, ph. D.

The primary winter months of December, January, and February averaged over the contiguous 48 United States were the 2rd coldest winter in the last 35 years. The average temperature of 32.2 deg. F was barely edged out by the slightly colder winter (32.0 deg. F) of 2009-2010.

The analysis is based upon ~350 NOAA/NWS stations that measure temperatures every 6 hours (or more frequently), many located at airports. The data I use are adjusted for average spurious urban heat island (UHI) warming that increases with population density around the thermometer site -

Maybe it just seems colder to me, since I'm not a scientist and tend to over-sample during the heating season..

I was just looking at the forecast, and at 3AM Monday starts 5 hours Back-up needed temperatures..

1am 2am 3am 4am 5am 6am 7am 8am

Temp (°F) 14° 13° 10° 8° 7° 6° 9° 10°

I was just on an ooVoo call to Texas and it's warm sunny and GREEN down there!
My sister took her notebook out in the yard and there were kids (wearing shorts)
and dogs playing in the street..
I guess it's already Spring down there..

Texas sure sounds nice right about now, I am currently enveloped in a large low flying cloud or more commonly know as a Fog Bank, its not expected to leave for 36-48 hours from now. I bet the mini splits are very productive in this Foggy 39*F weather..

The Sanyos will ice up if the dew-point temp is too close to the air temp..
But, it has to be down under about 25F to be serious.

Tonight the DP is 25F and the air is 40F ! No ice is Nice!

We are using very little electricity tonight..

We still have over 2 feet of snow in our yard. It's melting but it keeps bloody snowing.
