Seems that if you connect the sensing unit to one particular phase branch, and your monitoring head is pluged into the same phase branch, no problem. However, if you plug your monitoring head into another phase branch, there is no data. So it is important to have both the sensing unit and the monitoring head on the same phase branch. But there is a fix to allow data monitoring from either phase branch, and that is to employ a phase bridge. Leviton makes one that can be found HERE. The other approach involves a 0.1mfd 400V non-polarized cap connected from one phase to the other phase. Doing this in the electrical box would be dangerous, but constructing one into a 220 VAC plug, and plugging that into a 220 VAC outlet could be a solution. HERE IS another DIY phase bridge that uses more parts and also has a formula. -AC

I bought one of the $20 TEDs. Is there a way to use it to measure just my ASHP water heater or ductless split? Or does it just monitor the whole house?

It will monitor which ever lines you snap the current probe onto..
I used mine to measure my Mini-Split for years. Now, I have the clamps over both the 230 lines to the Sanyos. I read their combined power use (if both are on).

Since I have two Sanyos, I'm thinking of adding a second TED (from Ebay $20)
so I can see the power being used by each unit.. (make it easier to notice problems). Right now, I see both Sanyos on one TED display.. The old TED I got years ago is working great now.. http://ecorenovator.org/forum/applia...-can-work.html So, I'm wondering if I could install both units on the same filter setup? And not get a lot of data packet collisions ?? Anyone know the duration of TED signals?

The duration isn't to hard to figure, since it seems to be a 1200 baud signal.
I think the timing of the packets, might be a problem. But, since this older model may not have USB routines active, the start time of the 11-word data packets may not be in sync. If they are in *sync and the collision rate is high, work-arounds can be tried. (*start transmit might be triggered by a 120vac 60hz zero-crossing detector). I'm going to place my Ebay order and keep my fingers crossed..

I have a TED 5000-G that measures house power and solar power.
I would like to be able to measure the new mini split but an extra MTU and clamps is $90. I called TED tech support and asked if I can hook up a 1001 and TED 5000. He said just power the MTU on different legs and I should be fine. So I just ordered the TED 1001 off eBay how can you go wrong for $20 shipped |
