The plants are doing very well. The cucumbers and the watermelon are 4’ tall. The broccoli is doing great.
We were away for the weekend and before I started reading up on this I thought I had to feed the fish while I was gone. Just going away for a weekend you don’t need to feed the fish they will be fine. This is fun growing all this stuff but it will be so nice to be growing all this over the winter. |

I setup a better way to tie up plants. Two wires run the length of the bed and I ordered some new Rollerhooks like the one in this picture.
I feed the fish 5-6 crickets today they loved them. I found a grasshopper and it was too big for them to eat. They were all grabbing it and trying to eat it then finally a big on ate it. It was fun to watch. Last edited by pinballlooking; 07-14-15 at 12:32 PM.. |

The neighbors have a greenhouse, they have those lines in them. It seems to work very well.

Thanks but I really don’t have a green thumb. When I was young I could only grow cactus.
My wife had a garden before but I really did not participate. When I was young my parents had a huge garden mostly weeds that’s how I spend most of my summer weeding I never want to touch a garden again ever. So this is my first garden and no weeds not one. So it is not me it is the fish that have done all the work. I thank them kindly all the time. The growth was going to be 4 to 5 times faster than dirt gardening and I have to say it took a while to get going. But now it is just crazy how fast everything is growing. It's getting to be summer here in MA.. And summer is the prefect time of the
year to have a nice fresh salad for lunch or supper.. Just need to add some protein on top.. (thin slices of good steak off the bbq). Steak helps avoid sudden weight loss.. Oh, don't forget the black olives..

One of our goals is to eat better and all these vegetables should help that. When I get the back beds deep water culture done I would like to have some
Lettuce being ready all the time so we can eat more salad. Hopefully that will work out in hot summer it might be harder to grow lettuce. But I should be able to shade some of that to make it work. I got my new plant hangers in the mail today and put some of them up. |

The netting we had up was slowing down the plant growth. The cucumber that was on the cattle panel was 4’+ and the one that was on the netting was less than 2’ high. I got rid of all the netting. I will see how they do now.
I put the plant ties @8’ high that is how high I was planning on making my greenhouse wall. Now I wonder if I should make the walls a little taller. |
