![]() Plant pictures. I have a small watermelon and the cucumbers plants are about 2’ ˝ foot high.
I ordered some of these to hold up the tomatoes. They keep line tight as the plant grows. Last edited by pinballlooking; 07-06-15 at 12:59 PM.. |

![]() Just a quick note on the effort to run the system at this point.
I check PH and water temp each day when I feed the fish. I don’t need to check it each day but I have an electronic tester and it is simple to do. I feed the fish twice a day once in the morning once at night about 5 min each time. I look to see how they are doing when I feed them and look for any dead fish. Look into the sump once a day just to check the water level. I need to add some rain water every couple weeks. Once a week I run the full test for PH, ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Iron and salinity. 10 min. I usually need to add some Epson salt 3 table spoons once a week and Iron 6 tea spoons every two weeks or whet ever it requires. If the salinity is low I will add some pool salt but it has stayed fine since I salted to save the fish a while back. Watch the plants grow and check them over for green horned worms… Last edited by pinballlooking; 07-07-15 at 02:50 PM.. |

![]() I am surprised you would even have issues with those considering birds could probably land on your trellises to keep an eye on your plants. Well if you do find them I am sure your fish will enjoy the snack.

![]() I have not seen any yet. I did get a horse fly the other day and tossed it in the fish tank alive. It was gone in a flash.

![]() Last time I planted lettuce seed it came up fine but it did not have any shade. It died a slow death.
Now that my plants are taller I replanted lettuce. They should give it some shade to let the lettuce grow. Here is a picture of the cherry tomatoes. Last edited by pinballlooking; 07-08-15 at 08:52 PM.. |

![]() I won this new water pump and expansion tank set off eBay $71 shipped they go for $200 + shipping.
This should work for my closed loop tankless vent free hot water heater for my fish tank. This pump Whale UF1215 is for large boats it can run dry lift water 10 ft and has an amazing 98' head discharge. https://www.whalepumps.com/marine/si...eDatasheet.pdf I ordered my Automatic Air Vent. I don't need to many more parts for this. I still need the heating coil. I am switching to a 12v controller. The pump is 12 volt so I will run this off battery power. Then if we lose power in the winter with an ice storm I will have fish tank heat. It does not happen that often but it has happened in the past for and lasted for a few days. I am the very last house on the power line. Last edited by pinballlooking; 07-09-15 at 09:56 AM.. |

![]() Our first cucumber. It was very good.
My nitrates are still too high so I was worried this would be bitter. But I was pleased it was not bitter at all. The whole family enjoyed it. There are a ˝ dozen more one the way. Last edited by pinballlooking; 07-10-15 at 09:38 AM.. |

![]() today's shots:
the bucket cherry tomato: ![]() I have been topping it to try to keep it in arms reach. ![]() Outdoor dirt garden has been subjected to thunderstorms and drizzle for weeks. Bottom tomatoes and peppers are cracking open and rotting. ![]() Pepper plants don't like growing in mud: ![]() The flower box: ![]() I took some cuttings of tomatoes when the dirt garden got pummeled a couple weeks ago. Set the shoots in a small window box of road gravel on the right. The petunias box on the right is now on the ground. The tomato growing out of it is maybe a month in. The green box is maybe two weeks in and is in survival mode while the cuttings grow new roots. ![]() With all the rain, the petunias box up front clogged up, so I ravaged it and put some gravel in the bottom. As you can see, they are trying to damp off. Last edited by jeff5may; 07-12-15 at 08:59 AM.. |
