Thanks for the research and responses. The tote location will be underneath a pier and beam crawlspace, back edge of structure sloping down hill, so no immediate threat. My biggest loss would be the that much rain water. 140f X 330 Gallons should be plenty for dhw. I'm toying with low temp hydronics during our winter, not too cold here, and I do have a back up heater. If I can produce 140-150f x 330 gallons during the winter I'll be ecstatic, and if I can do more I'll expand my storage.
Like so many things on this board it looks like someone has to try it and see if it works! |

sort of off topic. Have you thought about just making a potable water cistern? Check the specs for QUIKWALLa Surface Bonding Cement #1220 - #1231 (sorry I can't do URLs yet).
It could be coated with something like americoat 240 to give it a black color to pick up heat. |

My plastic tank have 1000L, was tested in the first start to 85C.
All 4 beer keg with 9 bar. All works good, from 2013. Pictures here http://ecorenovator.org/forum/geothe...mp-backup.html Now I work with 55C on tanktop and 50C on tankbottom, the Arduino controller start the heat pump just onece a day at 3PM when the outside temperature is maximal. I instaled an external 24k AC unit with a 10mm copper coil 40m (I'm sure 30 is enough) You can see some data here https://personal.xively.com/feeds/899471984 Last edited by Daox; 04-08-15 at 08:40 AM.. |

Thanks Ferox! 85c=185f and 55c is 131f. I can work within those parameters. I haven't bought the tote yet, I'm still framing. 2nd floor is decked and roof framing is next. Its been hot enough here hot water won't be a concern for another 6 months.
