Bright 139 Lumens LED flashlight
Found the XL50 on Ebay for $20 and ordered one.
MagliteŽ XL50? LED Flashlight 139 Lumens is bright! I'm impressed! If you need a lot of light output from a small flashlight, this is the one. Be aware, there is no pocket clip or any easy way to keep this flashlight from rolling off the table etc. If you want to use it as a weapon light, it fits most standard 1" mounts. It's 4.75" long. http://photos.imageevent.com/newfron.../IMG_9070b.jpg You can get inexpensive bicycle mounts for 1" flashlights too. This thing would really light up the pot-holes.. Edit: I found out the Maglite website may be listing bad data..(Pic above). This pic of the package, shows completely different specs! Regardless, this is still a super bight flashlight. Even if the specs are mixed up..

I've become a huge fan of headlamps - hands free and it always lights where you are looking. This is the model I like:
Spot Headlamp - Black Diamond Mountain Gear The center spot light is very bright, and lasts for at least 8-10 hours at full brightness on rechargable ((3) AAA Eneloop) batteries); and it is dimmable. It would last a lot longer than that, but since it dims as the power drops, I just recharge the batteries. The two white LED's are more general lighting and last much, much longer, and they are also dimmable. The red LED's are surprisingly useful when you want to see but not disrupt your night vision. and it does have a strobe mode for any of the sets of LED's. In the power outage during Sandy, all four of us had one of these and it made things kinda' fun really. Doing all sorts of different work around the house, my headlamp in indispensable. |

Are those really that nice? I always figured I'd need light where I wasn't looking then I'd have to adjust this thing on my head all the time which would just be a pain... I mostly use lights for working on cars.

I have one of those LED headlamps and it works about the same.. Red mode etc.
I've never had to change the batteries, and I've had it for a few years. Anyways, mine has a hinge on the bottom of the mount and you can adjust the down-look angle. I think it has about 4 click-positions it will lock into. I like it, I use it about once a week, IIRC.. Wish that I had it when I was a kid.. Did a bit of Spelunking with unreliable incandescents and carbide miner lamps..

I love my headlamp - it is the best new tool I got in the past year. Mine has the hinge in it like Xringer mentions - if you are working close you use the 1st or 2nd click to angle the light down so it is shining where you need it. The two white LED's are fairly wide spread, so if you don't need really bright light, then use these. The center bright LED is fairly focused (and throws a long beam at night - 100+ feet) and it is instantly intuitive to just shift your head a little to see.
The alkaline batteries that came with it do last a *very* long time - I think the specs say 50 hours on bright and well over 200 hour on low. But once those deplete I now use Sanyo 'eneloop' rechargable NiMH batteries - these are by far the best rechargables that I have found. They hold their charge much longer before you us them, and they are slightly higher voltage so they work in everything I need them for (my mouse, my laser measuring tool, headlamp, and remote controls). |

I have two Cree 'XLM t6' LED bulb flashlights that really put out the light that use 7 to 12 watts depending on the battery count/voltage,Reportedly 900lm a bulb. They are zoomable take a 18650 lithium battery have the strobe effect and can be mounted on a gun, possible even a handgun, they are that small(and powerful), Really bright, these bulbs are, especially in a focus beam/zoomable flashlight.
