Global map of power plants by type (hydro, nuke, etc.)
Really just a cool thing to look at. I was a bit surprised to see as much hydro power as there is.
I got the image from: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...?tid=socialss/

I'm surprised at how much solar is in southern Germany. It must be their "100,000 roofs" solar program.
The map seems to prefer numbers of power plant types over size or percent of total power production. For example, Poland looks like an RE dream: solar with hydro in between, and some geothermal in the East. In reality, there are a few wind farms, mostly in the northern half of the country, but they produce less than 1% of the total production, and hydro is about the same, if not slightly more. About 90% of our power comes from coal, but I can't see a single brown dot in all of Europe! On the other hand, this infographic shows that RE power shows up everywhere, which is a step in the right direction (distributed production). A higher resolution image would be nice
