Power drain of home theater projector
I was discussing with my girlfriend that I'd like to add a switch to the outlet that our home theater projector will be plugged into. After a discussion we are curious how much power a projector would draw when powered off. Could someone with a kill-a-watt or something similar plug that in and quantify that for me?
Thanks, Cory |

Have you tried to look up the specs for the unit online?

Good idea. This is what I found.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/..._spec_3880.pdf The document says "290 W (Approx. 0.08 W in standby mode with fan stopped)". Now that sounds pretty good to me. On the other hand, if someone has one of these tools and a projector I'd be interested in comparing empirical evidence to manufacturers published specs too. cory |

it's prolly worth buying a kill-a-watt for yourself, they're only like 20 bucks on ebay.

Some systems have problems to measure low consumptions. IIRC mine is around 2-3W min. 0.1W is certainly too low to be measured accurately.

See if there is a brightness selector in the menus (might be labeled "economy mode" or something like that). It should reduce power usage and make the bulb last longer.
When you upgrade your projector, try to look for one that uses LEDs.
