I have seen solar rack systems that are made for roofing with tall ribs...

The rack system has, for lack of a better word, 'rib grabbers' that are tightened with an Allen head screw that tightens sideways and pinches the rib in a 'C-clamp' fashion. The sheet metal is never penetrated with this system.
