Maybe slightly off topic, for Christmas my brother decided to help out my parents with their energy expenditures. I had previously hooked my kill a watt to their chest freezer during the summer. It was estimating $360 a year energy usage. A couple weeks before Xmas I hooked it up again and it was estimating $160. I mentioned that to my brother so he purchased them a new energy star chest freezer. Ive hooked up the new one to the kill a watt for a week and here's are the results so far.
The original freezer is older than my brother or I. (38+) The new one With the power saving of the new freezer it should more than offset the increase from the heat pump water heater. So the results will be a lower electrical bill and no more propane bill. Win win Hv23t |

Nice upgrade. What kind of ROI is there on that freezer out of curiosity?

For my parents it's instantaneous. Lol.. I think he bought it at the home despot for $405 before the government steals their 8.5%. If you average the kill a watt readings I took in the summer and winter it's about $260 a year energy usage. If the new freezer uses the $34 a year it advertises it'll only take 2 years. So not bad.

Have you found any easy way to have a frost sensor have the unit cycle off on icing?

The unit should have one built into it from the factory. It won't work if it was bypassed. Upon activation, the unit runs the fan and not the compressor until the temp sensor goes up into the 40's.

Have there been any updates on this? COP testing with the new enhancements would be awesome!
