Smile I'm developing a strategy video game where you operate the Electric Power Grid

Hello, I am a self-taught game developer and student of Energy and Environment (Master Degree).

I dreamed about this game a long time ago and have been developing it since, learning the craft along the way. In the game you manage the electric power grid by operating different powerplants, investing in renewables and managing resources. By playing the game you deal with several concepts about energy production and consumption and the differences between all power plants.

To win the game, you must connect all buildings to your grid and always meet the electricity demand

You can try it out online by googling "Power the Grid itch io".

It would be great to hear your feedback!

Have fun!

Fun game! My best was 4 days 1 hour.

Recommend adding additional 'levels' with larger towns.

Bumping this thread for others to see.

This is an interesting strategy game, especially that you prognose the needs, differ wind production each day, etc., so you need to plan production. Like a real utility.

An extra level of complication could be investing in energy storage - either the the utility (you) purchases it or you invest in incentives for the consumers to do it themselves.

I am intrigued by the concept. I have worked on a couple of game developments and have also done software development for a power company. My spouse is a Dr of Science who has worked in power generation for over 30 years. It would have been interesting to try the game so I took a look.

Sorry to say I never got as far as playing the game because of the sheer arrogance of the design. Whatever makes anyone think it is OK to monopolise my machine and my time? Why does the game have to take over my entire screen? Why can't I run it in a window so I can also get on with other things, and/or move the game to a secondary screen to leave my main screen free? Hell, I couldn't even see how to close the game and the only way out was to kill it.

I killed the game at the "Elon Musk is busy" question and immediately deleted it from my PC. It will never return.
