Electric vehicle battery age
I'm looking into Leaf or Volt battery packs for solar storage. I have a question. Is there a way to verify what the age is for a pack that has already been removed from a vehicle? Maybe stamped somewhere on the pack? I know state of charge is just as important as age. I just don't want someone to tell me they have a 2013 or 2014 pack and it actually turn out to be a 2011.
Thanks guys. JJ |

Ok. No takers. Well, I got a pack and there is a plate at the business end(electrical connectors) of the pack that has a date that says 07-09-12. While it doesn't specifically say that is the build date, I'm going to guess that there is a good chance that it is. Haven't been able to find any information about this at any of my regular info forums or at any Volt forums. I'll post pix when I have more time.

This one is the front end of the pack. The area circled in red has the date code. I am guessing that it is the build date, but it is actually stamped into the metal so it could just be the date the end plate was built. Here is a close up. JJ |

What info did you get from the seller on the pack's condition?
Or is this a hope/prayer kind of transaction?

The seller had a 2014 Volt with a wrecked front end. He bought the 2013 model with a wrecked rear end to replace the front end on his vehicle. He said he used to work as an auto mechanic and from the vehicles he had in his yard I believe him. He also said that the Volt he bought must have been fully charged just before the accident since it showed a near full charge on the gauge. Also said he was able to drive it up on a ramp to facilitate the removal of the pack. I expect to pull the cover this week to at least test the voltage level.

Ok I couldn't wait. Pulled the cover off the pack and the meter reads 384 volts. That sounds like a win to me.
