Default Enphase Envoy installing Wi-Fi

If you don’t have Enphase microinverters for your Solar the Envoy reports all your power generation to Enphase every 5 min for every solar panel in your Enphase system. It is a great system but they did not have Wi-Fi until now. They used power line converters or hard wire Ethernet.

Enphase is now offering an Envoy with Wi-Fi support. This is great for new users but this will work for current customers.

Here is their install video

I bought the adapter that was used in the video.
TP-Link 150 Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter Mfr # TL-WN721N

TP-LINK TL-WN721N Wireless N Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2 - Newegg.com

My Envoy firmware is : R3.6.24 (238fd4)

I installed it just like the second part of the video but the Envoy did not
update to the current firmware.

So I thought I was done for but that was not the case I went
to the Administrator page I had a new menu option.

Wi-Fi Configuration

I just configured it like the video showed
Here is a screen shot of the Wi-Fi setup page.

One difference on my Envoy screen it shows +WiFi

It has been working good for the last three days.
The local connection to the Envoy is spotty but most people don’t use that very much.

My setup is not typical. My Envoy is about 125 feet away
from my house and my Wi-Fi network. The router is in a room facing that building.
The Envoy is in a metal building. I have the new Wi-Fi adapter on an ext cable
about 6’ long and I have it sticking out under the soffit. It is getting from
2-3 bars reception (mostly 2).

I now have high
gain version (TL-WN722N) running on my Envoy.

TP-LINK TL-WN722N Wireless N150 High Gain USB Adapter, 150Mbps, w/4 dBi High Gain Detachable Antenna - Newegg.com

No issues at all works just like the other one but now I get
three bars instead of two bars.

My Envoy is 125-130 feet from my house and the router is 15’
inside the house. I still get three bars
signal strength. This is great I am happy with this what a great add on to the
Envoy.

I called Enphase support and they pushed the latest firm ware to my Envoy
R3.8.26 (5c9ad1) they have very good support.

This setup is not supported by Enphase buy some of us hackers will try to answer any questions.
