I am adding a compact fridge
I find this one on Walmart.com
Igloo 3.2 cu. ft. 2-Door Refrigerator and Freezer - Walmart.com Energy usage was $22 or 206 KWH a year. Not bad so I order it shipped to store. I get it and open the box Energy tag says 40 a year to run. I packed it back up and got my money back. Now I have to find another one. Wow that is a huge difference. I am sure the guy at the store thought I was crazy but that energy usage was the main reason I bought that one. We are not using our full size freezer any more. But I need a place to store ice cream some freezer stuff and the chickens are making enough eggs I need more places to put them. Last edited by pinballlooking; 04-14-14 at 10:15 PM.. |

Convert that old freezer to a fridge.

$40 a year is quite allot for such a small unit. That's nearly what a full size fridge uses.
I keep trying to find a new unit for us but it seems they keep making the fridge side bigger and the freezer side smaller especially with the bottom freezer units which I hate and will not own. The ice bin is way too small on them as with the freezer. I'd have to get an ice machine to make up for what the freezer can't do. Living in TX you use allot of ice for drinks and we drink allot of iced tea. I'm tempted to buy a big freezer and a mini fridge but then I still need a supply of ice. With us we need more freezer space than fridge as LOML is a flight attendant and we don't have much in the fridge side other than milk cheese and condiments and filled with bottled water (city water is undrinkable) |

I am going to go get this one today at lunch time.
Vissani 4.5 cu. ft. Mini Refrigerator in Stainless Look, ENERGY STAR-HVDR450SE at The Home Depot I would rather have the black one that is $188 but they don’t stock that one and it is $40 to ship it with no ship to store option. This one is energy star 235 KWH estimated yearly that is $23.50 here. |

Interesting. That one uses less power than the smaller fridge only unit I was looking at for the shop. Hmm

We have a new compact refrigerator. This one actually has the right energy sticker on it.
This one was more money than the other one but this one is bigger and uses a almost 1/2 the power. Last edited by pinballlooking; 04-15-14 at 03:03 PM.. |

Home depot on sale $198.00
Model # HVDR450SE Internet # 203439004 Store SKU # 625426 My home depot only had two but the one 20 miles from me had seven of them so they must stock them. I would like the black one for $188 but they don’t stock that one and I am not paying $40 shipping. UPS usually kills refrigerators anyway. I have had it happen to me. I thought it was a decent price for a Energy Star model. Vissani 4.5 cu. ft. Mini Refrigerator in Stainless Look, ENERGY STAR-HVDR450SE at The Home Depot In the reviews I read people putting it in granges and campers. Just a note, the manual says to not put it in granges, outside or campers. It is not loud just a small compressor not fan as it dies not have auto defrost. We will keep ice cream in this one since it does not have auto defrost. Mark Last edited by pinballlooking; 04-16-14 at 12:38 PM.. |

I was going to put it outside. However, I suppose no refrigerator is intended to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from 15F to 100F. I didn't consider that. |
