Not sure if its everywhere but I have found Freecycle to be a good resource. I have been able to do a lot of things there. (mainly stuff I give away)

My wife's a moderator on our local Freecycle page. She uses it when she cleans house and wants to gift things on to people who can use items we no longer need. Meanwhile, I'm on a local FB group for free stuff.
