One trick for fixing bulb usage is to replace the switch with a timer (Turn knob or button). You can get them cheaply ($16 to $20 at Home Depot) and can pay for themselves in saved energy and bulbs. The spring turn knob type will work with CFL as well as Incandescent.

Bulbman.com has several in the e-12 base (32 on my last search) and up to 14 Watts.
