copper pipe cooling can also be used on computer graphic card. The higher performance which the graphic card has, the more heater it generate. therefore heat sink for graphic card become more and more large. and usually made of copper. although water cooling also be used in computer, it seems a litter of crazy for most diyer. 
I think it is similar with A/C you have mentioned.
