Magma and lava are the same thing. Magma when it's underground and when it hits the surface it's called lava.

Hawaii would be good for geothermal but they don't have the land area like iceland does to do the drilling. Once you get off shore it drops off.
I remember in school there they said the hotspot had moved off the big island and was off shore a good bit. We went over to the big island and up the volcano. 4 days after we were there and back at home on Oahu it started erupting again. IE lots of unknowns on where the magma is as well.
