Also if you want to move away from some of the issues of natural gas.
As a home tinkerer, it's not as easy and safe to work with, nor have all the tools. Venting and air makeup can be tough details in eco building.
Condensing machines also need no venting, so placement is easy.
I got rid of the service simply because my local wants $26 a month just to send me a bill with no usage. That buys a lot of Kwh for a small home.
Maybe it's mostly in my head, but I feel a lot better without a fire based heating system compared to the minisplit which is pretty darn harmless inside. And it's a breeze to monitor and work with.
I do miss having the whole house HVAC as you could combine humidifier and high quality filtering with it.
