I've been totally off the power grid for 26 yrs. I've studied the option of grid tie in and out and still can't make a case for it. I see no advantage to it in any way, beyond the fact of living totally normal in a normal home setting with normal big box store appliances..

Once one decides to invest and build a grid tie system, they become a documented target! Everyone knows who you are, where your at, and what you are doing. And, in most cases, if the grid goes down, one's no better off than anyone else. So.. What's all of the Hoop-Laa?

I see no in between personally. One either lives on the umbilical cord or not. Or, perhaps a mixed system with no interconnection between the two..
