Update: The defrost timer has been working correctly.
Maybe spinning it around so much with a screw driver cleaned it's clockwork..?.
And, the temperature measurements have been okay..
I just scanned them, and today they are marvelous!
So, we are going to put off buying a new fridge for a while..
