The "gasoline gallon equivalent" of propane is 0.744. Propane in my area is about $2.10/gallon WITHOUT any taxes. Using the GGE, that is about $2.82 per gallon.

Add federal tax, state tax and road tax.

For most combustion engines applications gasoline is more convenient, easier to obtain, store (short term), transport and cheaper initial cost of the equipment.


Of course, if you buy "enough" (?) propane the wholesale price is much less.
