If you can get that old shorted T-stat completely disconnected, it would be good.. It might be melted inside.?.
Just get the wires off it and cap them with twist caps or tape.

If your pump relay is like mine, (R845A) it should be able to handle the 7 to 8 Amps used by the A7.
And a start-up surge up to 44A..
