At various times in my life I've worked with rock and have occasionally sculpted some minor things. I saw a beautiful sink carved out of a rock and thought that I could do something similar as a hobby and I mentioned this to a friend. He said it wouldn't be "permitted" by the building code. I didn't believe him so I called my local building inspector, and sure enough, unless the sink is certified by the CSA you can't put it into your house.
