Short version:
how do I convert a R22 1-1/2 ton AC compressor from R22 to R290?
you don't have to do anything, can even mix with R22 left in system

is R290 the same as the LP I have in my 500gal LP tank for the furnace
close enough, you big tank may or may not have high levels of water that would freeze up an orifice or txv, so run thru filter dryer when charging. Most 1# cans of bbq propane are pretty dry, but no guarantee.
BTW, the filter/dryer will also REMOVE ALL of the mercaptan, so the propane will be ODORLESS. Don't rely on odor for safety.

isn't there a oil or something you have to add to make it work?
nope, same mineral oil as used for R22.

any and all info will be a big help
read the hundreds of other posts. Best to NOT use R290 for HP that is in a basement, propane is heavier than air.

Depending on the area of the country you live in, your big tank 'propane' may have appreciable amounts of butane, heptane, etc. Your supplier can tell you the composition.
