Default Hello from Troy, Illinois

I just joined the forum today. I am an avid solar enthusiast who designed and installed a grid-tied 3.8 kw PV array on my home about 3 years ago. Although we've experienced some challenges with the microinverters used in our system, I remain excited about the prospects of solar power our impact on the planet.

We have a couple of electric cars and electric mowers that benefit from our solar power.

I'm also planning to build a solar thermal system for domestic water heating and for hydronic heat. I have begun to acquire the parts, and plan to begin the process in a couple of months.

I have a web site that details all of that, and provides discusses our design and installation process. Search for "tinkeringcaveman solar" on Google and you should find the website.

My wife and I will be hosting a free Solar Open House on Saturday, August 2nd between 2:00 and 4:00 to share our experiences in solar living. The event is offered under the auspices of the Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA) at our home in Troy, Illinois (about 20 miles from St. Louis, Missouri). If you are an avid do-it-yourselfer, and are trying to decide how to go about installing PV, feel free to drop in!. You can register for the event by going to my website, google: "tinkeringcaveman solar"

I have training in PV and solar thermal design and installation, but am not working in the industry in any capacity, and I represent no company.
