Way back in the 70s I made a bike stand with a friction coupled generator that you could just set the bike in, climb on and peddle. I picked up a couple of identical used front forks at the bike shop, cut the tail off of the "Y" welded them to some angle iron with a spacer of a length related to the bike to be used between the front and rear forks, to stabilize the frame. The generator with the drive tire was fastened to the rear fork. The forks are upside down of course. All one had to do was drop the bike axles in the fork groves and you're ready.
