IIRC, the install sheet warned against just using batteries.
Since you could wind up with frozen pipes if they failed.
I'll have to keep looking into it..
Edit:
I've noticed the wiring into the thermostat box has a ground wire that's not attached to anything on either end.
Prehaps that can be the path for one leg of 24vac transformer just to provide power to the XL800..
The other 24vac leg could come in on one of the other lines.. Maybe..
AC power on RC & B and the control loop would be on W1 and R..?.
