Default IR Thermometer on a Stick...

In this post I proposed putting an IR Thermometer on a stick to poke around and find cold spots that needed extra insulation attention. In fact, just for fun I photo-shopped together an image that combined an IR thermometer with a metal detector to show what I was talking about...

I sort of meant it as a joke, realizing how much hassle it would be to figure out which contacts would be needed and how to interpret the data.

But darn if a local guy didn't do that work as part of a project to solder surface mount components to a circuit board...

Links are HERE and HERE.

His circuit board utilizes the output from an IR thermometer to control a hot plate. But it gives a remote digital readout along the way.

I spoke to him (Scott_D) last Monday night and he said that if there was enough interest he'd be glad to make another production run of the board.

Mind you, this is not a kit, and not a project for the faint of heart. If you can follow the posts in the links above, and have some familiarity with Arduinos this just might be your cup of tea.

Let me know...

Regards,
