The wind power guys use Dump loads all the time. The wind keeps on blowing after the bank is charged up..
So, many of them use a very large resistor, and some dump to an electric hot water heater.

My newer 800w array has not been used with inverters very much at all.
I've been using those 800 watts to heat water.
Wasteful I know, but it does help out with the hot water (abt 2400 BTUh).
