A variable speed motor is a viable option for an upgrade to your air handler unit. If you're still having any humidity removal problems, it's definitely worth looking at to increase comfort levels....

Well then, I guess since you will be moving in a year, the new unit will probably be considered in the selling process. I believe that a small mini split could add lots of leverage to that effect....
