Except components for such a small system are nearly non existent. Compressor heat pump stuff is often available for less than scrap price. Also the ammonia needed is highly poisonous so that doesn't...

So I've been thinking lately...

What if you take an automotive style A/C compressor, and drive it with a natural gas powered engine? Then, capture the waste heat from the engine.

From what I...

I have an office I am trying to build an approximately 10k BTU heat pump for. I've been wanting to do a simple backwards air conditioner, but I'm running into more problems than I would like in my...

That's another thing I don't understand about the commercial window heat pumps. They often are rated a few thousand BTU less in heating mode. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Well, to me it all just seems too easy. I must be missing something. I could go to Walmart and spend $99 on a brand new air conditioner. I could spend another $100 in random parts from ebay, add a...

Oh, I know they make window heat pumps, but they still don't make sense to me. They all cost something like $600-900+. Not going to save any money paying that much! Mini splits are great too, but if...

Looks like it's definitely an air flow thing. I pointed a desk fan at the evaporator and it ran for several hours in similar temperatures and never froze up. Still going to hook up a frost sensor......

It would be fantastic if they made a pool heater unit also. Here in the NW a swimming pool is barely usable for a month without heat. But the air conditioners all pump heat into the air for 4+ months...

That's what I was thinking. Problem with that is when I shut it off, and the ice melts, that rush of water hits the fan and I get some water mist out the hot side. I suppose I need to modify it to...

Seems like some misinformation here.

Even a big diesel generator is lucky to make 12 kilowatts from a gallon of diesel fuel. If diesel cost $6 like they say, that's 50 cents/kilowatt hour.
